Keezhoote Balakrishna Pillai Ganesh Kumar (born 25 May 1966) is an Indian film and TV actor and politician, now serving as Minister for Forests & Environment, Sports and Cinema in the Government of Kerala. He was elected to the State Legislative Assembly from Pathanapuram in Kollam district for the first time in 2001 and has represented the constituency ever since.[1][2] He was Transport Minister from May 2001 to March 2003.[3] He is the son of R. Balakrishna Pillai, former Minister of Kerala.

Political career

K B Ganesh Kumar is the Minister for Forests, Sports and Cinema, in the Government of Kerala. A third-time Member of the state legislative assembly from Pathanapuram in Kollam District, Ganesh Kumar was elected for the first time in 2001 by defeating Prakash Babu of the CPI[Communist Party of India]. He was re-elected in 2006 and again in 2011. He was Transport Minister in the A K Antony Ministry in 2001. In 2003, he stepped down from the ministerial post to make way for his father's inclusion in the Cabinet.

In the 2011 Assembly election, Ganesh Kumar won by a margin of 20,402 votes defeating K Rajagopal of the CPM [Communist Party of India - Marxist]. He was sworn in as a Minister on 18th May 2011. [4][5]

Film career

Ganesh Kumar made his debut in Malayalam cinema through the film Irakal directed by K. G. George in 1985. It was adjudged the second best film for the year. He has been performing a variety of roles for over two and a half decades in films and television serials. He was adjudged Best Television Actor (2007 Kerala State Award) for his role in the serial 'Madhavam' aired on Surya TV. Ganesh Kumar effectively balances political work and film career. He acted in the film 'Sandwich' soon after he donned the Ministerial mantle.
